He doesn&#8217;t ask for much, so why not? Unfortunately, Susie Homemaker I am not, so I don&#8217;t have 8 hours to piece together a delectable, gourmet cherry pie. But I do have a thinking cap and can simplify it&#8230;<\/b><\/i><\/p>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-48eUFkYgWYU\/Te6ccrJU_2I\/AAAAAAAAAs0\/4tDenjjpL1w\/s1600\/photo-416.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-48eUFkYgWYU\/Te6ccrJU_2I\/AAAAAAAAAs0\/4tDenjjpL1w\/s1600\/photo-416.jpg\"><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span><b><i>Oatmeal Crumble Cherry Pie<\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-0DW7I8II4VE\/Te6cdhm4dDI\/AAAAAAAAAs4\/MyqjwCd4678\/s1600\/photo-410.jpg\" imageanchor=\"1\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-0DW7I8II4VE\/Te6cdhm4dDI\/AAAAAAAAAs4\/MyqjwCd4678\/s320\/photo-410.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><span><b><i><span>8 slices<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><b><i><span>1\/2 cup water <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1 large sweet apple<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>8 cherries, chopped in half and deseeded <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1 can cherry pie filling<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><span><b><i><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1 teaspoon cinnamon<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>3 Dashes of nutmeg<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Zest of an orange (optional)\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1 cup old-fashioned oats<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1\/2 cup cereal (I used honey-nut cheerios)<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1\/2 cup packed brown sugar<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>4 TB margarine or butter, softened<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4UYfH5eYlAw\/Te6cZQ5fT1I\/AAAAAAAAAso\/ecAyf743PDA\/s1600\/photo-411.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-4UYfH5eYlAw\/Te6cZQ5fT1I\/AAAAAAAAAso\/ecAyf743PDA\/s320\/photo-411.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><span><b><i><span>Pie crust&#8211;homemade or store-bought<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Tools:<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Knife + Cutting board<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Small pot + Lid<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Medium bowl<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Spatula\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>1 gallon Ziploc bag<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>Pie pan + Cookie sheet<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><br \/><span><b><i><span>STEPS:<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ol><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-XlPD-d00TSA\/Te6cap_R2-I\/AAAAAAAAAss\/9ZpUvFR9ljI\/s1600\/photo-412.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"240\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-XlPD-d00TSA\/Te6cap_R2-I\/AAAAAAAAAss\/9ZpUvFR9ljI\/s320\/photo-412.jpg\" width=\"320\"><\/a><\/p>\n<li><span><b><i><span>Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Heat water in pot on high. Chop apple into small bits using knife, and toss apples into pot. Cover with lid and let apples boil.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><b><i><span>In the meantime, in the Ziploc bag, add in oats,  cereal, 1\/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and last dash of nutmeg. Remove the air  and seal the bag. Using your fist or the back of a measuring spoon,  crush the oats mixture for 30 seconds. (Don&#8217;t overcrush to crumbs.) Add  margarine and seal bag. Using hands on outside of bag, coat oat mixture with margarine.\u00a0 Set aside.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><span><b><i><span> <\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><b><i><span>Pour can of cherry filling into  medium bowl, using spatula. Add 1\/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 2 dashes of  nutmeg, and the orange zest. Add cooked apples to cherry filling and  stir<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><span><b><i><span>. Using spatula, pour filling into pie pan. Using hands, open the bag of oat mixture and sprinkle crumble on top of pie filling.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><span><b><i><span><br \/><\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<p><span><i><b><\/b><\/i><\/span><\/p>\n<li><span><b><i><span>Put pie pan on a cookie sheet to catch possible drips. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until crumble has browned and bottom of crust feels baked with a knife tapping the bottom. Eat! Top with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, and serve with coffee or tea.<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span><b><i><span>\u00a0All of this cherry talk reminds me of a quote:<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span><b><i><span>&#8220;I never see that prettiest thing,\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><b><i><span>A cherry bough gone white with Spring,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><b><i><span>But what I think,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><b><i><span>&#8216;How gay &#8216;twould be,<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span><b><i><span>To hang me from a flowering tree.'&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<p><span><b><i><span>Let&#8217;s just hope Dorothy Parker was talking about innocently swinging from a tree and not hanging. Have you ever seen the cherry blossoms in D.C. in the spring?
